Report on Webinar on Cyber Crime and Preventive Measures

SPADE, Society for Practical Applications and Development of Economics, the socio-economic society of Shivaji College, conducted a webinar on "Cyber Crime and Preventive Measures". The webinar was conducted by an industry specialist, Founder & Director of New Era Systems, Ms.PriyankaTomar on 10th November 2020 and observed the participation of over 75 people. Ms.Tomar has nearly two decades of work experience in the field of Cyber security and Cyber Forensics. She has done her BSc, MCA and PG Diploma in Cyber Security and is a certified ethical hacker. She served as a consultant to National Cyber Research and Innovation Center and Bureau of Police Research and Development

The webinar began with the encouraging words of Principal Dr. Shiv Kumar Sahdev. The guest speaker, Ms.Tomar, discussed the significance of cyber security in this digital world. Through real life cases, she explained how hackers, through different mediums and ways, can harm our cyberspace. She shed light on the various types of cybercrimes and how cyber criminals majorly target ordinary citizens. She also discussed several preventive measures that can be taken by the individuals to protect themselves from a cyber-attack. At the end of the session, Ms.Tomar answered some questions put forward by the audience.

The webinar was concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Varuni Chopra, President of SPADE. The webinar was yet another endeavour of the society to redefine notions.

Annual Event

ACE of SPADE’2021

SPADE, the socio-economic society of Shivaji College, organized its much-awaited annual fest – Annual Consortium for Excellence, ACE of SPADE on 26th February, 2021, overwhelmed with enthusiasm. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the event was conducted in online mode for the first time.

The theme for this year was ‘Cyber Security’.

Dr. Soumi Dutta, Associate Professor, IEM, Kolkata, and Dr. Sandeep Shukla, Professor, IIT-Kanpur honoured the event with their presence as the guest speakers.The event commenced with a virtual lamp lighting session. Dr. Prabuddh Mishra, the convenor of SPADE, delivered the welcome note to the event; followed by the address of the Principal of Shivaji College, Dr. Shiv Kumar Sahdev.Following the inaugural speech, the fourth edition of the annual research book – ‘Arthmanthan’ – was unveiled virtually. The research book contains research papers and research articles written by students on a wide range of topics from social and economic backgrounds.

Dr. Soumi Dutta enlightened the audience with her insights on microblogging analytics. She gave a presentation, briefly explained the technical procedure and challenges in filtering, organizing, and analyzing the information obtained from microblogging platforms; followed by a Q&A session.The speakers’ address was followed by a virtual screening of this year’s solution-based documentary made by SPADE Productions titled ‘Error 302: Request for Cyber Privacy’. Dr. Sandeep Shukla, one of the speakers for the documentary, gave his feedback regarding the documentary and also shared his experience on issues pertaining to cyber security; followed by a short Q&A session with the audience. The session was concluded by a vote of thanks proposed by the president of the society, Varuni Chopra.

The inaugural session was followed by four gripping events organized by SPADE namely – Quest for Crosses, Quiztopher Columbus, Eco Chase, and Estate Wars. The events received overwhelming participation of students from across colleges and schools spread nationwide.

ACE of SPADE’ 2021 witnessed an unprecedented level of enthusiasm and brought important issues to the cognizance of the audience, thus, adding few more unforgettable moments to the glorious journey of SPADE.The day was concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where the teacher in charges of the society announced and congratulated the winners of the events, thus drawing the curtains on the 4th annual fest of SPADE.

The festival was yet another endeavour of the society to redefine notions.
