Society & Activities

The computer society “Websters” was started with the aim to foster interest in the world of computers and technology. It provides a platform for like-minded brains to communicate with each other and expand their horizons. All students as well as the faculty of the Department are members of this society.

Websters has a well-structured student council who are responsible for conducting all events of the department throughout the year. The Department organises lectures and workshops by eminent people from the industry and academia to keep students abreast with latest skills and technologies. The Society celebrates its annual technical fest “TECHELONS” with great enthusiasm and zeal apart from organising the freshers welcome and farewell.

Computer Vision Workshop Report

Websters, the Computer Science society of Shivaji College, University of Delhi, organized a 2-day workshop on the Theme-Computer Vision on 21st and 22nd April, 2021. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the workshop was conducted in online mode on Zoom platform.The guest speaker for the workshop was Mr. Sameer Nigam, who is a Machine Learning Trainer with more than 5 years of experience in training and educating .

The organizing team promoted the event well and got 150+ registrations from different colleges and universities.

The first day of workshop started with a brief introduction of the speaker and welcome note by the convener Ms. Preeti Sharma. The guest introduced the participants with different applications and challenges of Computer Vision. This was followed by a question answer round where the students were allowed to ask different questions related to career opportunities in this field. The first day concluded with a brief project on ‘pattern matching’ using machine learning.

On the second day, the instructor introduced the participants with various important libraries used in the field of machine learning like numpy, tensor flow, keras, concept of neural networks, etc. The importance of mathematics and statistics in this field was also highlighted by the speaker. The participants performed another project- ‘handwriting recognition’, based on libraries that were discussed.

The 2-day workshop concluded with a final vote of thanks by Ms. Abha Vasal. The organizing team received a very positive feedback from all the participants.

TECHELONS '21

Websters, the Computer Science society of Shivaji College, University of Delhi, organized its Annual technical fest 'Techelons' for the session 2021 on March 2-3, 2021. Due to the ongoing pandemic, it was held in a complete online mode. The fest comprised of technical and non-technical events.

The following events were held :-

1. Data Divination- Data Science Competition

2. Code Hunter- Coding Competition (Java & C++ platform)

3. Quizophile- Quiz Competition

4. Picturesque- Poster Making Competition

5. Googler- Championing the art of searching.

Organizing the festival in virtual mode posed numerous challenges but at the same time offered opportunities to organize events at the national level. We were able to promote the festival all across India. We received more than 500+ registrations. The event was widely promoted on the student’s community platform dare2compete.com where it received more than 65,000+ views. Some of the prominent colleges and universities that participated were-

IIT Kanpur, IIT- Kharagpur, IIT-Delhi, IIT-Guwahati IIT-BHU, IIM-Indore, NITs, AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, BITS, NSUT, DTU, many colleges of DU, IPU and many more.

The finale of Quizophile- Quiz Competition was held live on Zoom platform. The fest concluded with a valedictory ceremony held online. All winners were congratulated and Webster team was appreciated for their contribution in making the festival a success.

Earlier Activities
