Society & Activities

Political Science Society: DEMOCRATS

"Democrats" - the political science society - gives adequate exposure to students by involving them in activities outside the routine classroom teaching. Educational tours and essay, debate and quiz competitions are some activities that are organised to enhance students' skill and knowledge. The society also engages actively in initiatives like supporting underprivileged students.

In the previous semester, the society invited Prof. Subroto Mukherjee, University of Delhi, at their annual department fest. Prof. Mukherjee delivered a lecture on "Expanding the Horizons of Democracy: Inclusion of Youth and the Marginalized." After the lecture, a political quiz competition was held. Political science students untiringly collaborate with the faculty for an enriching experience of all undergraduates in this department.

The Annual Departmental Fest was held on March 7, 2020, in the college auditorium. Prof. Anand Kumar (Formerly Professor in Sociology, JNU) delivered a lecture on “Democracy in India in the 21st Century: Issues and Challenges”.

Celebration of the National Voters’ Day by the Democrats Society, the Department of Political Science (Shivaji College), in collaboration with the Election Commission of India (Zonal Office) took place at Shivaji College on January 25, 2020, at 12.30 PM in the college auditorium. Ms. Avni Bhatia from ‘Josh Talks’ was invited to conduct a very inspiring and interesting workshop on voters’ awareness so as to awaken the young voters in general and the first-time voters in particular regarding the value of their vote.

The Department of Political Science conducted its annual Celebration of 71st Republic Day on January 23, 2020, at 10.30 AM in Room No. 209 of the college.

Republic Day Celebration

The Department of Political Science accepted the invitation for the Ambassadorial Lecture Series of Delhi School of Transnational Affairs and sent a team of twenty-five students along with two of its faculty members. The lecture was organised under the auspices of Delhi School of Transnational Affairs and presided by the Honourable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Yogesh Tyagi on September 25, 2019, at the Convention Hall, Viceregal lodge, University of Delhi. His Excellency Walter J. Lindner, the German Ambassador to India, delivered a public lecture on “ Public Diplomacy: Leaving the Cage”, followed by an interactive session with students.

Trip to Ambassadorial Lecture Series

The Department of Political Science observed Constitution Day in the college on November 8, 2019, to spread awareness among the students regarding the importance of the Constitution in nation-building. It also celebrated Independence Day in the College on August 16, 2019. A quiz competition among the students on the theme of India’s Freedom Struggle was also conducted to mark the occasion.
